PEAK MUSIC 1998 - Aerosmith Inspiration

This is a series that will attempt to Sport(ify) music by creating a 5 member All-Pro/All League/All Star team (Sort of like the NBA first team all-stars) for each year in Music starting with 1964. It will rely heavily on Top 20 Hits from the year but also take into account Concert Tours, Music awards, Music Videos (MTV Crowd-You Tube), TV, Films, Pop Culture etc….

1998

Celine Dion – 3 top 20 hits including the Theme from the Titanic

Monica – 3 number 1 hits including the BOY IS MINE

Will Smith – 3 top 20 hits including no 1 GET JIGGY WITH IT

Spice Girls – 3 top 20 hits

N Sync – 3 top 20 hits

Just Missing

Puffy Daddy – 4 top 20 hits (all collaborations)

Backstreet Boys, Aerosmith

Aerosmith was probably the first group I thought of for the inspiration of these post. I was always fascinated how they were able to have hits in the 1970s, a resurgence in the 1980s (beginning with RUNDMC, Walk this Way), to the theme song in 1998 for the movie Armageddon. Initially when I started this I thought they would have appear on these lists many times including 1998, but they did not - but not many artists can have hits in 3 decades.

  1. Yeah, that's the trouble with soundtrack hits--they tend to be isolated from your other singles, so that's why Aerosmith didn't have much that year beyond the one big hit.

My only change would be that I'd put the Goo Goo Dolls on the list. Same deal as No Doubt the year before--no commercial singles, so no Hot 100 action, but "Iris" was the biggest hit of the year other than maybe the Titanic song, and "Slide" was a big hit too. As I mentioned, with 1999 they started letting non-singles chart so it's not an issue anymore.
