Peak Music 1992 - A Van Halen thought

This is a series that will attempt to Sport(ify) music by creating a 5 member All-Pro/All League/All Star team (Sort of like the NBA first team all-stars) for each year in Music starting with 1964. It will rely heavily on Top 20 Hits from the year but also take into account Concert Tours, Music awards, Music Videos (MTV Crowd-You Tube), TV, Films, Pop Culture etc…..

 1992

I realized THAT with my last post - I may have had George Michael at number 5 largely based on a personal bias in the form of his music video song FREEDOM (the one with the super models).

Which brings me to Van Halen. I just realized that we are just passing their peak in the music industry and I did not include them in any year. I am surprised at that.

In 1991, they came out with the album:

For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge

It had 2 big hits Right Now and Poundcake and 2 even better music videos. In fact the Sammy Hagar period for Van Halen (I preferred him to David Lee Roth), just had some great songs with even greater music videos.

Earlier, In the Best of Both Worlds and Come On Baby Finish What You Started videos those guys just seem to be having so much fun. It is fun to watch (I found them on you tube the last couple of years). The Dreams video with Blue Angels is another awesome video.

In the last few years, I think I may have under sold the value of the music video when they may have been more apart of our lives than just hits on the radio,.

Boyz II Men 3 top 20 hits including number 1 "End of the Road"

En Vogue – 3 top 10 hits including "Free Your Mind"

Madonna – 3 top 10 hits

Whitney Houston – 1 number one hit "I will always love you" BodyGuard

Michael Jackson -2 top 10 hits (Black and White)

Just Missing –  Guns & Roses (Patience)

This seemed to be a weak year for music as many different artists top the charts

  1. Yeah, after Boyz II Men it was a tough year for sustained success. If Mariah had put out another single after "I'll Be There" she'd be here for sure.
