18 times a Super Bowl winning coach - coached a new team, this is not good news for the Steelers and Giants

Since Vince Lombardi coached the 1969 Washington Redskins in 1969 to a 7-5-2 record there have been 17 other instances when a Super Bowl winning coach, coaches another team for the first time*

Mike McCarthy and John Harbaugh will coach different teams (after previously winning Super Bowls, the Steelers and Giants respectfully and for McCarthy it is a second time after coaching Dallas) and they will be number 19 and 20 respectfully.

The combined record of the other 18 coaches - in there first year with the new team.

119-162-3 (.424)

In 2003 Bill Parcells went 10-6 for Dallas. The only time a Super Bowl winning coach hit double digit wins in his first year with a new team. (Note Parcells and Mike Holmgren would take eventually take another team to the Super Bowl Parcells-1996 with Patriots and Holmgren-2005 with Seahawks)

It looks like it will be a brutal year for the Steelers and Giants as that .424 winning percentage comes out to about a projected 7-10 season.

*I have included Joe Gibbs coming out of retirement to coach the Redskins  12 years later in 2004 - they were technically a whole new team.
