This is a series that will attempt to Sport(ify) music by creating a 5 member All-Pro/All League/All Star team (Sort of like the NBA first team all-stars) for each year in Music starting with 1964. It will rely heavily on Top 20 Hits from the year but also take into account Concert Tours, Music awards, Music Videos (MTV Crowd-You Tube), TV, Films, Pop Culture etc…..
1976
Saturation – Nobody really dominated the Charts, there were a lot of artist with one hit. Peak Music takes into account top hit number one, top 10, top 20 and popular culture. So with that in mind:
I can't believe it but Captain and Tennille is it with three top five hits including a number one and a television show that premiered in 1976 that lasted one season as did they.
Elton John had three top ten hits including one with Kiki Dee.
Aerosmith dreamed on with two top ten hits
Wings had 2 top ten hits with a silly song called silly love songs that went to number one.
Picking number five was most difficult as it was a battle of number one hits (these artist did not have any other big hits that year), I went with the 4 Seasons (December 63 – A tune I still hear a lot of on the radio today). The 4 Seasons beat out Number 1 hits
50 ways to leave your lover – Paul Simon
Love Hanger – Diana Ross
Shake Your Booty – KC Sunshine Band.
If you leave me now - Chicago
Tonight's the Night – Rod Stewart
Kiss- (Beth -7), Boston (More than a Feeling -4) were also in the running for number 5

Needs Peter Frampton. Two top ten hits and a third which just missed (#12), plus his album was number one for 10 weeks and he was on every magazine cover on the stand.
ReplyDeleteA lot of huge acts put out one single late in the year (Stevie Wonder, Fleetwood Mac, Eagles) and the other singles from those albums came out in 1977.
Yeah - thought about Frampton I have him as having 1 top 10 hit but 3 top 20s in 1976. I do remember him being huge in middle school along with the Farrah poster.
