This is a series that will attempt to Sport(ify) music by creating a 5 member All-Pro/All League/All Star team (Sort of like the NBA first team all-stars) for each year in Music starting with 1964. It will rely heavily on Top 20 Hits from the year but also take into account Concert Tours, Music awards, Music Videos (MTV Crowd-You Tube), TV, Films, Pop Culture etc…..
1973
This was a race between Stevie Wonder and Elton John. Stevie Wonder probably would have made a few top 10 lists but this is PEAK MUSIC and we are only rating the best of the best of each year
Stevie Wonder had 3 top ten hits including "You are the sunshine of my life"
Elton John had 3 top twenty hits including "Daniel"
Paul Simon 2 top ten hits including "Love me like a rock"
Wings had (with Paul McCarthy) 3 top ten hits including "Live and Let Die" The best James Bond theme.
The Rolling Stones squeezed in at number 5 with their one top twenty hit that went to number one "Angie" As a side note I can't believe that Sympathy for the Devil never charted. Martin Scorsese has used it in many of his movies

"Sympathy For The Devil" wasn't eligible to chart in 1969 because it wasn't a single. A lot of classic rock songs never charted for that reason. It did, however, spend one week on the chart in 2003! There was a remix out, and that's what charted. So technically it's a #97 hit.
ReplyDeleteCan't argue with your choices. Elton and Stevie were absolutely huge at this point. You could make a case for the Carpenters over the Stones for the last spot, although the Stones were a huge live draw so that helps their case even though the Carpenters had more hit singles.
Interesting fact about "Sympathy For The Devil" - Thanks
