In 1976 I created a tournament among the TSN all-time all-stars – I picked what years I thought were the best years for Ruth(1927) Williams (1941) Cobb (1911) etc… and had them compete. I remember who won - Rogers Hornsby 1922 -I decided to recreate the tournament and expand it to see if Rogers Hornsby 1922 season will still win.
Cobb (1911) v Musial (1948)
| Cobb | Musial |
|
AB | 592 | 611 | Musial |
RUNS | 148 | 135 | Cobb |
HITS | 248 | 230 | Cobb |
2B | 47 | 46 | Cobb |
3B | 24 | 18 | Cobb |
HR | 8 | 39 | Musial |
RBI | 127 | 131 | Musial |
BAT | 419 | 376 | Cobb |
|
|
| Cobb 5-3 |
This one saves my childhood, if Stan the Man Musial would have won it would have been heartbreaking to know that the TSN All-Time All-Star set did not include him – His 1948 season had a lot of unusual stats, - that is why I had to have him go against Cobb right away.
