Baseball Card Price Guide History - 1984 Donruss Don Mattingly

At one time the hottest rookie card on the planet. This card is credited starting the rookie card craze. The rookie card craze now has evolved into the autograph rookie card craze but just this same. Personally, I  rank the Fleer and Topps cards as better looking than this and the 1984 Donruss set as somewhat over rated (back then and today).

Don Mattingly 1984 Donruss Prices:

August 1985 Baseball Card Magazine  $.90-1.50
October 1998 Sports Card Magazine   $55.00
February 2006 Beckett Baseball          $15.00-40.00
Last Month on Ebay                           $15.19 (102 non graded sales)

Not bad the non graded card still fetches $15.00. This card took off around the summer of 1985.

  1. 1984 was a great year to collect. I think Topps had the best design (by far)... but Fleer & Donruss were decent too.

I loved the special subset cards from Fleer... especially the ones you matched up to form a bigger picture (for example: Carew & Boggs: runner up & batting champ). As for Donruss... they had those special SP cards... one of the first inserts I ever pulled.

As for the Mattingly... what an iconic card. I'm bummed that I sold it years ago... but I guess the good news is they're more affordable these days.
