Don Sutton

With the Astros leaving the National League here is a great look at Astros uniform when they were at their best. I know that they went to the World Series in 2005 but the 1980 Astros were probably their best team. It is odd looking at Don Sutton in an Astro uniform. Sutton is the poster boy for non-Hall a Famers who are Hall of Famers.

Another great shot of cheerleaders abs in 2012 Score Football: Andre Roberts

As with a previous post about Malcolm Floyds 2012 Score Football Card - I found another 2012 Score Football Card that shows a Cheerleader with a great pair of abs (?- are abs in pairs? I dont know because I dont have any). This is in action shot too.  I believe that is a Cardinal Cheerleader.

I love looking at Duke Snider's year by year statistics.

From ages 22 to 25 Duke Snider put up some nice stats for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Having at least 21 HR and 92 RBI every year. Then from 1953-1957 Duke went on one of the most incredible and unique 5 year runs in baseball statisical history.

1953 (42-126-.336)
1954 (40-130-.341)
1955 (42-136-.309)
1956 (43-101-.292)
1957 (40- 92-.274)

I don't think any player finished in the 40s for Home Runs for 5 years in a row.  I doubt any player has even been within 3 home runs seasonly over a five year period. Also, you can see that Duke's statistics were slowly decreasing.

Then at age 31. Duke career fell off the face of the earth. Parly because of age, partly because of injuries and partly because of the LA Coliseum. Because of the dimension of the Coliseum Duke's power numbers were diminished.

1958 (15-58..312)
1959 (23-88-.308)
1960 (14-36-.243)

I think don't think any other player in history was diminshed like Duke from a change of scenery like him going  from the Polo Grounds to the LA Coliseum.

Hey Keith Law, Ryan Howard is good and deserves his money

The Phillies were 37-48, before Howard played this year and they are 38-26 since he started playing. They even lost the first 3 games he played in. There are some experts that rip his contract and devalue his RBI's but this dude is good and the Phillies have been about the best team in Baseball since 2007. Howard has been the leader of the team. RBI's matter and that is what he does. He drives in runs and the Phillies win and that has been going on for a long time now.

This was the first card I saw when I bought my first pack of 2008 Topps. The 2008 Topps set is probably my favorite in the last 20 years or so.

Hey Panini, Basketball is a vertical game leave the Horizontal cards out

Ever since the 1971 Topps Baseball set we have had many sets with veritical and horizontal cards. I personally hate this. I especially agreed that horizontal cards have no place in Basketball cards. 2012-13 Prestige would have been a great set without the horizontal cards. This looks like half a card.

Would you rather see an obscure Youtube video or Topps less Photos of Kate. I say Kate

I would rather see Top Less photos of Kate Middleton and Kate Upton.
I have not seen the photos but I would not close my eyes if they appeared in front of me. I have seen a couple of youtube videos of Kate Upton. OMG.  There are interesting developments all over the world now. A lot of it has to do with images. What are images and who controls the rights to the images. Who controls the rights to personal likeness. Property rights. Freedom of speech (you can't scream fire in a crowded movie theatre) This even effects sports card (Panini Logo less cards  baseball cards- No Topps Matt Weiters card. This appears to be a developing story.

Hey Topps, where is Brett Lawrie rookie card logo on his Finest Card

There is something amiss here. What is missing is Lawrie rookie card logo. He had one on his Topps and Bowman cards but it is missing here. Why is that. A mistake, oversight, confusion, don't card. Who knows.

2012 Topps Ashante Samuel - One of the Greatest Photo Shopped Cards of All Time

When I saw this card, I thought Samuel did not play for the Falcons last year. I was right, he did not. However, this Photo Shopped card is flawless. There is nothing about the uniform or helmet that looks out of the ordinary. Some of the Topps rookie cards are pretty terrible for photo shopping but this card is down right perfect.

Big Ben as Big Foot? Mean Joe and Troy say so.

As many people have speculated over the years - there may be startling evidence of that Big Ben maybe Big Foot. First and most importantly they have never been seen or photographed together. Second both have the first name Big. Third both are very big and clumsy looking.

The above football card is the first ever to show 2 fans wearing Mean Joe Greene and Troy Polomula jerseys.

The Television Event of the 1970s - Big Foot vs. The Six Million Dollar Man

With its premeire on Feb 1, 1976, after a 2 week wait from a teaser on the last Six Million Dollar Man episode, the battle royal was on.  We were able to figure out that Big Foot was stronger than the Six Million Dollar Man because Big Foot was able to completely jump over that lake while Steve Austin came up a bit short.

The confrontation came over a year before Darth Vader and Obi Wan would square off on the Death Star. It was Andre the Giant who played Big Foot in these two back to back episodes (Feb 8). This was probably the peak for the Six Million Dollar Man as it would go off the air in a little over 2 years late. Only lasting 5 seasons.

Just like Big Foot, I don't think there is a card or sticker that was able to caputre a photo of the creature.

Donruss's 1970s Bikini-Clad Summer

Around 1976 or 1977, Charlie Angels premeired on ABC. I think it was on 9:00pm. I was not an avid watcher but I did get to see my share of eposides. These Donruss cards came out, I believe, after the second season. I don't recall if Farrah Fawcett was on any of the cards. I know Cheryl Ladd came aboard on the second season and she appeared in the Donruss set. I think Farrah held out the whole year 2nd year or just appeared in a few shows. Then she was done with the show.  I was never a big Farrah fan. I did not own her poster and I was a big Lee Majors fans (so when the divorce happened, I sided with Lee. Lee and Farrah were sort of like Brad Pitt and Jennifer Anniston of their day).

Out of all the Angels, I thought Tonya Roberts was the most attractive and Jaclyn Smith was not too shabby. I believe Jaclyn and the white Bikini appeared in the first season. The numbering on the card below makes me believe there was a second series of Charlie's Angel cards.

2012 Score Malcom Floyd - Cheerleader's Bare Mid-Driff Edition

Back in 2009, Topps put out an insert set in its base football set of NFL Cheerleaders. I thought about collecting that insert set but did not, I do have one card from the set of a Jacksonville Cheerleader (I think).

Well 2012 Score does give us shot of a Dolphins (I think)cheerleader .  Just below and above Malcom's outstretched left leg. That women definitely works out and has a great looking mid-driff.

Dane Iorg

The other half of the Iorg brothers. Dane was on the World Champion 1982 St. Louis Cardinals. Dane hit between .291 to .327 from 1979 to 1982. He was a great backup outfielder. This shot has a little too much shadow.

Danny Boone king of the wild frontier

or was that Davey Crockett. Here is a close up of Danny Boone in the side posed shot. It almost seems like he is posing for a glamour shot, The guy had one long skinny neck.

Rick Reuschel

Rick was a large man, who was also a very good pitcher. You can see the belly that he had on this card. This photo is kind of dark but it captures him on the Yankee pinstripes.

Roger Erickson

The funny thing about Roger Erickson to me is that the Twins would in a few years have another pitcher named Erickson who was very good for a short period of time. We really cant say that about Roger. This was not one of the best Twins photo's in the set.

Glenn Hoffman

A nice posed at the ball park shot of Glenn Hoffman. I think that is Comisky, right. Hoffman was a light hitting infielder for thr BoSox

Carney Lansford

The 1981 American League Batting Champion is capture in this action photo after taking a swing. He was involved in the Freddie Lynn deal that brought the Lynn to the Angels. Lansford was an anomaly. He was a right handed batting champ that played for the Red Sox. Boston has produced the most batting champions in the game and most of them have been left handed. The reason they have had the most left batting champion was because of Fenway. The way Fenway is set up with almost no foul territory down the first base line, gives batters a lot of second chances and no foul ball out.

Tito Landrum

A great looking card for a guy with a great first name. Tito. The awesome thing about this card, even though Donruss 1982 did not have logo's on the front, because of Tito wearing his warmup jacket, we get the logo in the bottom right corner of the card. In fact, I which we could have a set where all the players wore their warmup jackets that had their team logos across the left part of their chest. The card design would not have to show the team logo but you would be able to see it across the players chest (that is if all warmup jackets had the team logo on it.)

Al Oliver

Here is a picture of Scoops smiling for the camera. Al would play for the Montreal Expos in 1982 and I believe come in 2nd or 3rd in the MVP voting to Dale Murphy. He is one of those almost hall-of-famer players.
