For me, Dan was always the player that ended the Big Red Machine. Dan replaced Tony Perez who was traded after the 1976 championship. The Reds were still good for awile after Perez left but they were never the same. He had a decent 1977 (17-91-.300), but the next 4 years he never batted better than .265
