Football Card Price Guide History - 1989 Score Barry Sanders

This is a big Surprise that Barry Sanders rookie card is going for twice as much as Franco Harris and Tony Dorsett. This card and 1989 Score set was hot back in 1989 and the early 1990s but it still surprises me that a card from the junk wax era is worth more than the rarer cards from the early 1970s.

10/1996 Sports Card Mag                                 $45.00
4/2005 Beckett Football                                     $15.00-40.00
Last week on Ebay (avg price)                          $39.01 (105 sales)

In 2005, this card’s value was less than Dorsett's and Harris's rookie cards.

  1. Did football get hit with the junk wax era as bad as baseball? I know Pro Set was as junky as it gets, but it always seemed like football cards from those years are slightly less readily available and have held their value better.

  2. Wow it's nice to see Barry's rookie card holding value. This set was great back in 1989 and had a limited print run compared to the other card companies. Which was why it was so hot. Not only that, but it had rookies of Sanders, Aikman, Deion Sanders, Thurman Thomas and Chris Carter, to name a few.
