In 1982, Danny Ainge was the only NBA player to get a card

I know that it is hard to believe, with some recent years having 50-60 NBA sets made, but it is true. Ainge appeared in Donruss's, Fleer's and Topps baseball set and he was the only NBA player to have a card in 1982.

Topps 1981-82 set came out in the fall of 1981 and was the only NBA set for that season. In 1983, the Star Company made a set with all the players who appeared in the 1983 NBA all-star game(Topps did not produce a set for the 1982-83 season). Technically, it could be considered the only set of the 1982-83 season but it was definitely not made until after the 1983 all-star game.  Danny would not play baseball in 1982 but played for the Boston Celtics in the 1981-82 and 1982-83 NBA seasons.  Thus, Danny Ainge holds the distinctin of being the only NBA player to have a card come out in 1982.

  1. Great card. I'm not an Ainge fan, but for one reason or another, I love seeing him in those early 80's baseball sets.

  2. As a long time Basketball Card collector,Im still disapointed there was no set in 1982-83.Topps excuse for not making the 1982-83 Basketball set was that E.T. cards sold so well....darn you Luke Skywalker .
